About the Folio

I always tell aspiring writers not to focus on writing “the right way.” We talk often about tropes we enjoy and expect in storytelling, but we must remember that most of these are reader expectations channeled by publishers and the media. Stories are dynamic and don’t always fit into these structures. Some stories lend themselves to paths seldom taken. With that in mind, I’m proud to recommend some dynamic novels from different genres.

Son of the Storm

Son of the Storm

By Suyi Davies Okungbowa
In my epic fantasy novel, the simple discovery of the long-lost journal of a mad king ignites a chain of events that will either topple an empire or secure its dominion. Much of the world-building was inspired by my West African origins. Although fictional, I hope my story can help readers first envision, and then engage, with the multifaceted nature of the Africa-descended experience.
