How Long 'til Black Future Month?

How Long 'til Black Future Month?

By N. K. Jemisin
N. K. Jemisin is one of the most celebrated science fiction authors of all time, the first writer in history to win three consecutive Best Novel Hugo Awards. But before her career took off with The Broken Earth trilogy, Jemisin struggled to find herself as a young reader and writer. She felt like people of color had no place in visions about the future, from The Jetsons cartoons she watched as a kid to science fiction magazines she read as an adult. Instead of waiting for someone else to do it, Jemisin taught herself how to write the stories she wanted to read. The stories in this collection explore the inequalities and injustices of our own time while looking to different futures, some more hopeful, some worse than our own. “Now I am bolder, and angrier, and more joyful; none of these things contradict each other,” Jemisin concludes. “Now I am the writer that short stories made me.”
