A Recipe for Magical Pumpkin Pasties
Double double toil and trouble! (Ok, that was “Macbeth,” but you get the gist; today, we’re discussing witches and wizards!)
What’s better than curling up with a homemade dessert inspired by your favorite book in these cold winter months? As a child, I was always curious about the pumpkin pasties referenced in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer Stone”— first, when Harry tried one on the Hogwarts Express, and then again, when Cho Chang ordered two from the trolley in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”
I was determined to make some myself and see what all the fuss was about.
Here is my favorite recipe, adapted from The Domestic Geek on Youtube. They’re delicious, easy, and make rewatching the series so much sweeter.

INGREDIENTS:
2 store-bought piecrusts (you can home-make them, of course, but this witch has no time)
1 cup pumpkin puree
1/3 cup light brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp salt
1 egg, beaten
INSTRUCTIONS:
Preheat oven to 375°F.
In a small bowl mix pumpkin puree, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until they are completely combined.
Lightly flour your work surface and roll out piecrust. Using a cookie cutter or small bowl, cut 6-8 circles from the crust.
Arrange the circles on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Scoop about 1 tablespoon of filling into the center of each circle. Dip your finger in some water and run it along the edge of each circle. Fold each circle in half and gently pinch the edges together.
Brush the top of each pastie with egg wash (beaten egg) and bake for 18-20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
PS: If you have a pumpkin-shaped cookie cutter, even muggles will love them!
