As I read this memoir, I imagined I was in a better America in the future where our government officials were mature, educated adults. I then imagined reading this history book and being shocked at how politics used to be back in the 21st century.
The fact that this is our current reality is ridiculous, embarrassing, and sad. This book truly moved me. It was well-written, and Kamala Harris did not hold back. Although this is one-sided, I felt like we (she) were the only people with common sense trying to take on a ringmaster who can put on one hell of a performance. OMG, what occurred in those 107 days is an absolute disgrace. No matter your position, we should all agree that the last few decades of politics have been dysfunctional, to say the least. But now, the politicians are even worse.
Memoirs are my favorite genre, so if you’re on the right and think this book was total BS, recommend another memoir about the last presidential race. I’ll read it. This book deserves all the stars.

Shockingly already dated. This was published in 2017 and it’s horrifying to see how far the US has already fallen down the tyrannical pipeline.
This has amazing talking points but it’s very evident it was written by a liberal Democrat wherein the sources Snyder uses to make his point are anti communist and pro Reagan policies. However, I think because of Snyder’s way of using his sources, this would be a great read to give to someone you’re trying to sway from the far right.
Also, in case you still don’t think this applies to you, if you are MAGA, pro ICE, pro Israel, or anti human rights in ANY way (abortion, LGBTQ, or immigrants to name a few) then congrats! You’re part of this tyrannical regime and are in fact on the wrong side of history.

Caste needs to be part of every HS and household curriculum. It’s eye opening, well researched, informative and 100% essential reading for all.
The way Wilkerson blends history, sociology and her own personal narrative made for such an informative and engaging read. It also absolutely gutted me at times.
Even though there were many parts of this book I felt grateful to have previously been self educated on, I still learned so much!! I appreciated how she explained the differences between race and caste using the 8 pillars. Each section highlights different ideas that uphold hierarchy with cold hard facts and references. I also appreciated the way she made these complex ideas accessible. It was reflective, clear and informative without feeling overly academic. I read along with the audiobook and thoroughly enjoyed that experience, as it added even more emotion.
This system harms everyone—psychologically, physically and socially. I think (and hope like hell) that this book will help people reframe the way they think about systemic inequality.
I know I said this in the beginning but I have to reiterate—this book is a MUST READ.
