About DK
Phil Clayton completed a horticulture degree at Wye College in Kent before heading to the RHS Garden Wisley as a student. In 2002 he joined the RHS’s The Garden magazine, through which he met many of the UK’s leading plant experts and visited the country’s great gardens and plant collections. In 2004 he was named Journalist of the Year by the Garden Media Guild. By 2006 he’d started work on his own urban plot in Peterborough, now overflowing with exciting plants. In 2016 he became Deputy Editor of The Garden, from 2022 he began a freelance writing career. He has authored A Plant for Every Day of the Year (2022) and Grow Roses (2024) for DK as well as contributing to RHS Gardens of Great Britain & Ireland (2025).
