Your Duck Is My Duck Reviews

“Okay,I would like to quote one of the reviews (by someone named Bonnie) of this book I read on Goodreads here,”Eisenberg is clearly a talented writer, but I’d put her in the category of writer’s writer, someone other writers admire for their style. She doesn’t engage her readers with Sergio readers or a compelling plot. Her turns of phrase are original but they don’t always work. She’s too original!” This is the PERFECT verdict of this book, according to me! I whole heartedly agree that she is one of the rarest, gifted, most talented, extremely intelligent writers whose work is so full of nuances, depth and profound layers. At the same time,I couldn’t say that I was able to figure out all the Easter eggs in these six stories. It was like a dreamy state where you read a story, able to comprehend the grandeur of the writing, that intellectual rapture though you aren’t quite convinced you visualised all the dimensions of the story,to marvel at the master mind who penned it but still not sure if that was the only angle to those stories,if you succeeded in wrapping your head around it. A great one to choose for a book club read BUT definitely can’t be enjoyed by all! A tough, dry, dense, longer read!Good choice for a book club read because every single person who reads these stories will definitely notice something which the other has skipped and to discuss all those hidden layers would be the pinnacle of joy in reading books!!!Trust me,this one has a plethora of perspectives to talk about!!! My short perspectives of each one, 1.Your duck is my duck: Talks about how patrons influence the art and the artists, their dominance leading to a very constricted and confined space for an artist to spread their wings and fly to their heart’s content.A film director’s vision turning to a producer’s movie is what strikes me here! 2.Taj Mahal: How a false narrative alters one’s history forever in the eyes of a total stranger!Again, the ill effects of all the fake news by the paparazzis,a memoir or even a social media post for that matter. But then,NOT ONLY THAT BUT MORE NUANCES TO BE DEBUNKED!!! 3.Cross Off and Move On: Again about an altered history but more of putting a person’s life, their memories, their idea of their own identity to a trial.Imagine realising that you have always known things through someone’s lens and never really got a chance to decide for yourself! This one really made me pause and let the fact sink in and further more understand the consequences of the interactions I have with my kids and their impacts on them! 4.Merge: This one made me draw parallels with the books I read earlier,”A Thousand Splendid Suns”,”There are rivers in the Sky”,”Endling”!How it becomes convenient and comfortable to let slide rather to turn a deaf ear to all the desperate cries for help, attention and action needed all over the world when merged with one’s own personal issues in lives. One always ends up being satisfied with the very small, very basic human gestures performed now and then, mistaking them to be the magnanimous ones received so far by the human kind!Truly a disturbing situation where contentment should actually a backseat really. 5.The Third Tower: A typical case when being different is misunderstood as abnormal! Also can be interpreted as the unfortunate happenings when people in power confine and create spaces to explore. When there is a limitation to one’s imagination and creativity. When there is only one acceptable path to success.Pretty much made me think of our society’s idea of being an acceptable, accomplished person. If you don’t follow the exact route, they think is good, you are nothing but a failure🙄🤷🏻‍♀️ 6.Recalculating: This just felt like how “Recenter” works in Google Maps.Even if we wander to a far off place, there is always something to come back to,to begin where we left off, that even if we change paths there is always a “recalculating” feature allowing you to help with reaching the same destination.Felt like a different take on one of the previous stories,”Cross Off and Move On”!That even when you were brought up with false narrations, there is always a chance of redemption. But then, this can ALSO be seen as realising the true meaning of someone or something when it’s already too late!!! All these stories can be taken, one at a time and can very well be dissected and interpreted in innumerable ways. The anatomy rather the skeleton of any single story can never be defined or confined. Such a prodigious writing but sadly can easily be passed off as boring for its complexity!!!”
