Publisher Description

A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR: TIME and GOODREADS • A brave new collection of poems from Sandra Cisneros, the best-selling author of The House on Mango Street.

It has been twenty-eight years since Sandra Cisneros published a book of poetry. With dozens of never-before-seen poems, Woman Without Shame is a moving collection of songs, elegies, and declarations that chronicle her pilgrimage toward rebirth and the recognition of her prerogative as a woman artist. These bluntly honest and often humorous meditations on memory, desire, and the essential nature of love blaze a path toward self-awareness. For Cisneros, Woman Without Shame is the culmination of her search for homein the Mexico of her ancestors and in her own heart.

Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“As a new Mom occupied by the multiplicity of womanhood, I find this collection utterly refreshing. I love that Cisneros provides insight into the American Latinidad of her generation in a way that delivers so deeply a wisdom with which to guide the next. I read everything as Audio book while in baby land, but I am definitely buying a physical copy to add to my permanent collection. I have not resonanted more deeply with a poet ever. Maltiox Doña Cisneros!”

Slightly Smiling Face“This was a really good poetry book! I don’t I’ve ever read a poetry collection written by a Latina. As a Latina myself, I found these poems a little nostalgic. I don’t often read books by Latinx authors (although I’ve been working on that this year), so when I do, it surprises me for a split second they know Spanish phrases that I grew up listening to or sometimes obeying. Cause I’m not used to that! I found so many poems in here that were heartbreaking and then there would suddenly be comical relief haha. The language and culture of this book to me back to my Guela’s (grandma) house or my own childhood homes that were all about 20 minutes away from Mexico. I NEED to read more books by Latinx authors.”
