Witches Abroad

By Terry Pratchett
Witches Abroad by Terry Pratchett digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Be careful what you wish for...

Once upon a time there was a fairy godmother named Desiderata who had a good heart, a wise head, and poor planning skills—which unforunately left the Princess Emberella in the care of her other (not quite so good and wise) godmother when DEATH came for Desiderata. So now it's up to Magrat Garlick, Granny Weatherwax, and Nanny Ogg to hop on broomsticks and make for far-distant Genua to ensure the servant girl doesn't marry the Prince.

But the road to Genua is bumpy, and along the way the trio of witches encounters the occasional vampire, werewolf, and falling house (well this is a fairy tale, after all). The trouble really begins once these reluctant foster-godmothers arrive in Genua and must outwit their power-hungry counterpart who'll stop at nothing to achieve a proper "happy ending"—even if it means destroying a kingdom.

“Every single time I finish a discworld novel it it’s always at some ungodly hour and I know that if I don’t write anything down now then I never will write a review. So welcome to another addition of me (sleep deprived) reviewing discworld. I’ve been in a reading slump the last week and 1/2 and thought to myself “oh well maybe I should take a break from the discworld and try another series” NOPE. DID NOT WORK. I tried to read Mistborn and tried to read some Robin Hobb. But finally I caved and thought “well if there ain’t any discworld books with Vimes as one of the main characters then I might as well read the next best thing and that seems to be the witches series with Granny Weatherwax” OH MY GOD. I love her. you know that one seen in Making Money where the one character who is obsessed with becoming Vetinari has an entire page just dedicated to repeating his name over and over to capture the Vetinari energy and it’s like “Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari Vetinari” that is me…but with granny Weatherwax I WANT TO BECOME HER! She is so amazing! I’ve read the first 2 witches novels and I’ve always enjoyed the Granny, Nanny, Magrat trio but in this book GRANNY WAS JUST DIFFERENT. Maybe it’s because it was revealed she has a sister, and I always love it when I can read a book about sisters (despite how I wished that their relationship was explored more) Nanny and granny are the besties of all time. They lowkey remind me of my friendship with my bestie sometimes 🩵 I did have some problems, the writing of certain characters and atmospheres was a bit off yanno. And Verance (fool) was one of my favorite characters from the last book, so it sucked to not see him but at least he got mentioned once or twice. Death’s appearances in these novels (witches and wizards) are so much more frequent than I expected them to be. But I always love to see my favorite characters in action. Oh well that’s enough thoughts for today sleep, let me sleep!!”
