Winter Kept Us Warm
ByPublisher Description
"Every word here feels set down with care and fierce conscience. The resulting narrative glows." —San Francisco Chronicle
A novel of rich details and landscapes, Winter Kept Us Warm follows three friends through six decades — from postwar Berlin to Manhattan, 1960s Los Angeles to contemporary Morocco. A twisting narrative reveals their mysteries in fragments, examining their long–ago love triangle and how it changed their lives forever.
"This novel is a profound success that manages to take its place in the canon of excellent war literature while also maintaining a kind of magical surreality . . . This is an astonishing read, a best–of, and a masterful treatise on enduring." —Lambda Literary

“This was one of the most lyrical, beautifully written books I've read in the last year. It's a stunning debut. As I've gotten older I've come to more fully appreciate books that center on relationships rather than action. The connections we form with other humans are wonderfully complex and incredibly diverse in form. None of my friendships are the same, and every person in my life contributes something unique to it. This book illustrates the beauty (and often the pain) of those relationships through the lens of three young Europeans who met during WWII and whose connection continued throughout their lives. The novel was so well-constructed it was hard to believe it's a debut. I look forward to amazing things from Anne Raeff.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.”
