“Judy Blume was a significant contributor to my love of reading as a young child in the 70s. Watching my students still enjoy Peter, Fudge, and Sheila after all of these years delights me. I never realized she was a controversial author when I was growing up, but I did read “Are you there, God...” when I was in 2nd grade, prompting my mom to have conversations she wasn’t prepared to have with me so early on. It’s something my mom and I still laugh about to this day.”
