When Should Law Forgive?

By Martha Minow
When Should Law Forgive? by Martha Minow digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

“Martha Minow is a voice of moral clarity: a lawyer arguing for forgiveness, a scholar arguing for evidence, a person arguing for compassion.” —Jill Lepore, author of These Truths

In an age increasingly defined by accusation and resentment, Martha Minow makes an eloquent, deeply-researched argument in favor of strengthening the role of forgiveness in the administration of law. Through three case studies, Minow addresses such foundational issues as: Who has the right to forgive? Who should be forgiven? And under what terms?

The result is as lucid as it is compassionate: A compelling study of the mechanisms of justice by one of this country’s foremost legal experts.

When Should Law Forgive? Reviews

3.0
“Very interesting book that explores forgiveness within the law, particularly through a restorative justice lens. Child soldiers are compared to children in gangs, student debt is compared with national debt, and the question of amnesty and what are the consequences of forgiving are explored. The boon was well thought out. At times I felt like it was harder to get through and perhaps that was my ability in the moment or perhaps the way it was written was not as easy to follow.”
“For class, but I really enjoyed this book even when I did not agree with all of it, and I am staunchly pro Martha 4 SCOTUS, and I am a deep admirer of her thought and care.”
