When Grumpy Met Sunshine

By Charlotte Stein
When Grumpy Met Sunshine by Charlotte Stein digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

A steamy, opposites-attract romance with undeniable chemistry between a grumpy retired footballer and his fabulous and very sunshine-y ghostwriter.

When grumpy ex-footballer Alfie Harding gets badgered into selling his memoirs, he knows he’s never going to be able to write them. He hates revealing a single thing about himself, is allergic to most emotions, and can’t imagine doing a good job of putting pen to paper.

And so in walks curvy, cheery, cute as heck ghostwriter Mabel Willicker, who knows just how to sunshine and sass her way into getting every little detail out of Alfie. They banter and bicker their way to writing his life story, both of them sure they’ll never be anything other than at odds.

But after their business arrangement is mistaken for a budding romance, the pair have to pretend to be an item for a public who’s ravenous for more of this Cinderella story. Or at least, it feels like it’s pretend—until each slow burn step in their fake relationship sparks a heat neither can control. Now they just have to decide: is this sizzling chemistry just for show? Or something so real it might just give them their fairytale ending?

“As a Ted Lasso fan, I loved this. I laughed. I cried. The characters had insecurities and common ground that felt relatable.”
Beaming Face with Smiling Eyes“Though I really liked Mabel and Alfie and their banter, I found the book a little hard to read. The third person was throwing me off, but also the continued miscommunication. I did love that he ended up writing a book about how much he loved her, it was so sweet!”
“So here’s the thing, there are parts I love, but there are just as many part I don’t love. There where moment I felt all the rom-com vibes. There where moments I was cringing. There where moments I was very confused. Over all it felt very chaotic. Which it fits the FMC, it just doesn’t fit for me as a reader. This might be the first time you’ll see me think this: the spice made it worse. I did not like the spice whatsoever. I do love their love. I don’t love how slow burning it was (it’s just a problem I have). I love the banter. I did not love the miscommunication that very much there. So just a chaotic books that I have chaotic feelings towards.”
“I loved this story! I listened to the audiobook and the accent was the cherry on top! Not too much, but just enough 🤌 Mabel was a legit ray of sunshine, but also very sarcastic and funny, which I loved. Alfie was hilarious and made me think of Roy Kent from the Ted Lasso series, I do wonder if he was an inspiration for his character. Mabel and Alfie's chemistry and banter was soooooo good I couldn't get enough! Lovely story with an obvious satisfying conclusion, but I still enjoyed the ride the whole way through. Except the miscommunication moment, or should I say the no-communication moment, they always get on my nerves!”
