When Alex Easton, a retired soldier, receives word that their childhood friend Madeline Usher is dying, they race to the ancestral home of the Ushers in the remote countryside of Ruritania.

What they find there is a nightmare of fungal growths and possessed wildlife, surrounding a dark, pulsing lake. Madeline sleepwalks and speaks in strange voices at night, and her brother Roderick is consumed with a mysterious malady of the nerves.

Surprised Face with Open Mouth“Creeeeepy. I'm already paranoid about inhaling spores because I don't want mushrooms in my lungs and cordyceps esp are creepy so this is like compounded creepy on my existing paranoia but I loved it.”

Anxious Face with sweat“I could not put this book down the last hundred pages and towards the end i could feel my heart racing in my chest. I felt like the book was very short sweet and to the point. I was worried it was going to be a little too similar to mexican gothic but was pleasantly surprised. Im very excited for the second book to come out in February to see where our characters end up!”

Anxious Face with sweat“WOW! This book kept me hooked from beginning to end. I started to expect the ending toward the middle of the book but it still kept me hooked nonetheless. This is such a descriptive and eerie book I really felt like I was there and started to plan what I would do in this situation. I would give it a thousand stars if I could, this book was AMAZING.”

Surprised Face with Open Mouth“Finished in one day—not just because it was a short novel, but because it was such an engaging read that I was fully entertained and didn’t need anything else that day📚 This was a really fun retelling of The Fall of the House of Usher, with a touch of body horror and contagion paranoia mingled into the plot. Think Edgar Allen Poe with a touch of John Carpenter and James Wan. Dope.”
