A USA TODAY BESTSELLER!

Falling in love with your husband is anything but convenient in this steamy romance from the New York Times bestselling author of Business or Pleasure.

Dani Dorfman has somehow made it to her thirties without knowing what she wants to do with her life. So when an office romance ends poorly and gets her fired, she applies for a job in Amsterdam, idly dreaming of escaping the mess she’s created, but never imagining she'll actually get it.

Except she does. By the end of her first week in Amsterdam, she’s never felt more adrift or alone. Then she crashes her bike into her high school ex-boyfriend—and suddenly life is blooming with new opportunities.

Wouter van Leeuwen was a Dutch exchange student Dani’s family hosted, a forbidden love that ended in a painful breakup. Years later, there’s still sizzling chemistry between them, and okay, maybe a little animosity. More importantly, Wouter needs to be married to inherit a gorgeous family home on a canal—and when Dani's job falls apart, she needs a visa. As the marriage of convenience pushes them together in unexpected ways, Dani must decide whether her new life is yet another mistake—or if it's worth taking a risk on a second chance.

What Happens in Amsterdam Reviews

3.5
“A 30-yo miracle baby breaks up with her boyfriend, then loses her job and moves across the world to beautiful Amsterdam to work at a startup tech company. This slow burn romance features a people pleaser, marriage of convenience and a second chance romance between the FMC and the man that stayed in her home and attended her school 13 years ago as a foreign exchange student. ***Minor Spoilers*** The third act conflict was so stupid and unnecessary. Girl, you love him, why does everyone need to know the intricacies of your relationship. Also, you're having very intimate sex with him... Do you need for it to be spelled out? Specially after you've had a great conversation where he says and does things you've never experienced or dreamt of (in a good way). Her parents are total assholes and need to grow the fuck up. The story was beautiful, full of language, culture, food and scenery. It also features two (in the background) sapphic relationships ✨ Mentions of: — Asthma — FMC with Port-Wine stain — Anxiety — Off page hospitalization / mental health hospitalization — Off page death of a parent / grief / chronic illness”
“Dani moves to Amsterdam on a whim after she loses her job and boyfriend to escape. But Amsterdam isn’t all she had hoped it would be when she loses her job (again) and can’t help but feel lonely. When she runs into her high school ex-boyfriend, he suggests getting married so she can keep her visa and he can inherit his family home. Lines start to blur as they try to fake their marriage in front of everyone else. I loved this book and related to Dani soooo much!!! Much of how she was feeling is exactly how I feel as someone in their 30s and kinda “flailing through life.” I don’t think I’ve ever read a marriage of convenience book but I liked it! It was also second chance, slow burn, cute and flowed at a great pace. I was never bored. It also made me want to go back to Amsterdam because I barely scratched the surface when I went 10 years ago. This was my first book by Rachel Lynn Solomon and looking forward to reading more!”
