Westwind

By Ian Rankin
Westwind by Ian Rankin digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

For the first time in the US, this timeless cat-and-mouse classic from the Edgar Award-winning "genius" examines political tensions in an era of espionage (Lee Child, bestselling author of the Jack Reacher series).

In Europe, the Americans are pulling out their troops in a tide of isolationism. Britain, torn between loyalties to America and the continent, is caught in the middle. Across the pond, a space shuttle crashes on landing, killing all but one of the crew on board: A British citizen named Mike Dreyfuss, who will become vilified by the US press and protesters.

Halfway across the world, at English ground control headquarters, Martin Hepton watches with dismay as they lose contact with the most advanced satellite in Europe. When a colleague who suspects something strange disappears, Hepton realizes there is much more at stake than anyone knows -- and many more people on his trail than he can possibly evade . . .

Surprised Face with Open Mouth“At first I was a little bored. The Government and space are not really any of my interests. However the story really picked up after the first few chapters when most of the characters have been established. I had a hard time putting the book down for the last half. It was really gripping and had a lot of action. It played out practically like a TV show in my mind. There were many characters that each played a vital role in the story. The political and government jargon was a little hard to follow but that’s just me and also a small portion of the story. If you’re into the uncovering of conspiracies or hidden secrets this is a good read!”
“Not my usual genre and my first Ian Rankin. I liked the pacing and the ending was pretty exciting. I did struggle to keep track of who was who and what their roles was - not sure if this was because I listened to this as an audio book or not. I did really like the narration though!”
