“I feel weird reviewing my own book, but I need to in order to add it to my “The Stories I Wrote” folder. WEST OF APOCALYPSE was inspired by the first book my wife Sheri ever lent me: Stephen King’s THE GUNSLINGER. We were in high school, and it was the weirdest thing I’d ever read. Fast forward a couple decades, and I was between projects with no idea what to write next. I decided to revisit King’s book. My idea was simple: take King’s novel, change the protagonist to a young woman, make her a swordfighter instead of a gunslinger, start the story in a similar place to THE GUNSLINGER, and see where the story would take me. I started this book on a lark, and it turned out to be the passion projected I’d been waiting all my life to write (and had never realized it). I had so much fun writing this book. It was like creative heroin, and I’ll be chasing that high the rest of my writing life (not a complaint). I’ve been grateful for the response WoA has received, and I hope more readers will find their way to it in the years to come.”Start a Book Club
