We're Not Safe Here by Rin Chupeco digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

From the author of The Bone Witch and The Girl from the Well comes a chilling horror told primarily through video transcripts, message boards, and radio shows, that will shake you to your core.

Wispy Falls is safe. The town motto is even "You'll be safe here!" But you aren't safe in the woods that surround the town. In the woods there are monsters. People go missing in the woods. And sometimes the monsters don't stay in the woods…maybe you aren't that safe in Wispy Falls.

A seventeen-year-old vlogger known as Storymancer is determined to get to the bottom of what's wrong in his town. A few years ago, his little brother went missing in the woods and no one, not even his parents, seemed to care enough to try and find him.

But for the first time, an actual body has been found in the woods, and Storymancer is using the opportunity to uncover the rotten core at the heart of Wispy Falls. To investigate the monsters that lurk in the shadows, and the people in town who might just want the monsters there after all.

We're Not Safe Here Reviews

“Definitely not what I expected, especially the ending, but I was gripped the entire time. Listening to the audio version of this definitely enhanced the experience.”
“Horror fans just read this okay. I highly recommend the audiobook it's quite the immersive experience!”
“At first, it took me a little time to get used to the format. A lot like reading texts in a chatroom, as opposed to paragraphs in the usual book style. But then I found it hard to put the book down each night. I was right there with the main characters, wanting mysteries to be solved. 😉”
“Was definitely an interesting book and was formatted differently than most books. The ending was confusing though. I don’t fully get it. It wasn’t super satisfying. I think the ending is basically showing that what happens to Storymancer is going to continue to happen. I think it would make a really cool horror movie but I know I wouldn’t be able to watch it myself lol”
“My 2¢ - get the audio instead of the text versions. I listened to this book as an audio through Libro.fm and I think that made all the difference. The format of this story was really unique - a blend of perspective and audio or visual recordings being documents in writing. As such, the narrators really helped to bring the story to life, differentiating between the active content, and the recorded content. For me, the experience of the book was a little more powerful than the storyline. The plot structure had incredible promise with a dystopian/sci-fi feel, monstrous genetically modified monsters, and an authoritarian government. It was giving “big brother is watching you” with some of the cloistered aspects of Shyamalan’s The Village. I liked the way the characters were communicating mostly anonymously through a website. It all felt very timely and relevant. There were some spots where it seemed veer a little more horror, and honestly I wish the author would have opened up more of that, because as a thriller it could use a little more oomph. In the end I really enjoyed the book, probably more so because of the excellent narration. So maybe it would have been a three but I’m bumping it for the excellent audio experience.”
