Publisher Description

Get Out meets Parasite in this eerily haunting debut and Reddit hit—soon to be a Netflix original movie starring Blake Lively—about two homeowners whose lives are turned upside down when the house’s previous residents unexpectedly visit.

As a young, queer couple who flip houses, Charlie and Eve can’t believe the killer deal they’ve just gotten on an old house in a picturesque neighborhood. As they’re working in the house one day, there’s a knock on the door. A man stands there with his family, claiming to have lived there years before and asking if it would be alright if he showed his kids around. People pleaser to a fault, Eve lets them in.

As soon as the strangers enter their home, uncanny and inexplicable things start happening, including the family’s youngest child going missing and a ghostly presence materializing in the basement. Even more weird, the family can’t seem to take the hint that their visit should be over. And when Charlie suddenly vanishes, Eve slowly loses her grip on reality. Something is terribly wrong with the house and with the visiting family—or is Eve just imagining things?

Surprised Face with Open Mouth“This book is the perfect spooky season read! I was genuinely creeped out through the whole thing! 👻 I definitely have more questions since finishing it than I did while reading! 🤔 This book brought me out of a slump and I can’t stop thinking about it! Highly recommend if you love a good book that gets you thinking, heightens your senses and leaves you wondering that the hell happened!!”

Beaming Face with Smiling Eyes“That was so cool!!! It's so eerie and the atmosphere is spot on. Again, I have to explain that I don't get scared of this type of story, but I can see how some people would. The story is so interesting that I devoured it in mainly two sittings (because of work). The audiobook gives life to the creepy part. For the whole experience, I thought I needed it to be a movie/series (happy to know it will be!). I must say I had two theories by half of the story, and they ended up being "suggested". For those who don't like doubtful endings, it's not going to be a good ride for you. Yes, it's an open ending. Kudos to the author for keeping me entertained and glued to the pages.”
