“binged the whole thing in a day. genuinely toe gripping horror. i felt like i had a movie playing in my head as i read, so i was pleasantly surprised to find that they’re making an actual movie of it on netflix soon!!
the ending is more loose but i think the last page clarifies enough that you know what the “right” thing is.”“I can appreciate a book with an untrustworthy or unreliable narrator, this just felt very predictable but without the satisfaction of a bit reveal. It seemed as though the author was trying to imply room for skepticism, but at the same time laid out exactly how everything ended up.
I did enjoy the actual writing, the author did a good job building tension and creating a setting that was believable and creepy and atmospheric all at the same time. There were certainly points where I was feeling the creeps.
I hated Eve as a character. There were just so many points that something happened that was unbelievable to me, and I know much of it is explained due to the fact that she’s an unreliable narrator, but it just felt like she was insufferable.
All in all, some ups and downs. Fun read, has some character and pacing issues though”
