“An eye opening and thought-provoking novel, based in a real life setting, tackling current issues in Malaysia. It feels so distant from the society that we know and experience daily, and is so incredibly important as a reminder about how different parts of the world work.
The social inequality is devastating yet so normalised, due to this being the protagonist’s normal. This makes for an even bigger impact and is really enlightening.
The tone of the book is so dark yet comes across incredibly mundane due to Malaysia’s different standards and views. The normalisation of such a horrific crime seems brutal, as it’s such a different way of life, and an entirely different culture.
Beautifully written and really surprised me, captivated from the first page. Stunning!”
