Waypoints by Sam Heughan digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Journey deep into the Scottish Highlands in the first memoir by #1 New York Times bestselling author and award-winning star of Outlander, Sam Heughan—exploring his life and reflecting on the waypoints that define him

"I had to believe, because frankly, I had come so far there could be no turning back."

In this intimate journey of self-discovery, Sam sets out along Scotland's rugged ninety-six-mile West Highland Way to map out the moments that shaped his views on dreams and ambition, family, friendship, love, and life. The result is a love letter to the wild landscape that means so much to him, full of charming, funny, wise, and searching insights into the world through his eyes.

Waypoints is a deeply personal journey that reveals as much about Sam to himself as it does to his readers.

“Retracing parts of the West Highland Way, Sam uses the journey to reflect on his life, career, and personal milestones. It moves between past and present. And it’s as much about what’s going on internally as it is the physical journey. This one surprised me a bit. I expected more of a straightforward travel book—but it leans much more into reflection and personal insight than I thought it would. And honestly, that’s what makes it work. ⚔️ What stood out: 🏴 The Scottish setting There’s something about reading this as someone from Scotland that just adds another layer. The locations feel familiar, and it makes the journey land a bit more. 🧠 The reflection It’s not overly heavy, but there’s a lot of thoughtful moments throughout—about life, career, and perspective. 🚶 The structure The mix of past and present works well, tying the physical walk to different stages of his life. It’s maybe not as consistently engaging as something like Clanlands, which leans more into humour and banter. But that’s not really what this is trying to be. Waypoints is part memoir, part travel narrative, and part personal reflection—built around a long-distance walk across Scotland. If you enjoy: 👉 Travel writing with a personal edge 👉 Reflective, slower-paced reads 👉 Books that feel grounded and honest …it’s definitely worth picking up.”
