“Thank you to RBmedia and NetGalley for the alc of Vow Forever Night
This was such a fun listen! It’s vaguely reminiscent of The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy with Dramione vibes (he’s a dark, murderous, blond sorcerer; she’s a light, intelligent, healing witch) and packed full of dry humor, but with less superfluous writing - the prose is hilarious and a unique style.
Lucien has been ~keenly aware~ of Kleos for the twenty-odd years they’ve lived in the same town without speaking to her — certainly not obsessed, just … intrigued. As a dark sorcerer, his touch is deadly…to everyone except Kleos, who is exhausted by everyone’s energy, except his. The two are total opposites, yet as Kleos is targeted by dark magic and Lucien steps in to protect her (“who did this to you?”) the two are more authentically themselves than they’ve ever been with anyone else, and the slow burn definitely sizzles (until it catches fire later in book). Both characters were fantastic, the world building is perfectly executed-just enough info as you need need it, dark and atmospheric, the banter is hilarious, the plot is intriguing all the way though, and I adored the supporting characters!
With dual narration by Christy Woods and Derek Duvall, the narrators are perfectly suited to their characters and do a wonderful job bringing them to life and conveying the humor. The pacing was great, and they each had unique tones for every character, making it easy to follow along.”
“I thoroughly enjoyed this book and this author! We love a completed duology. There's a whole world in there, but I felt like it was easily accessible and understood. I really like the characters, the slow burn/not really slow burn - more like a "we just have to acknowledge this" type of burn? Whatever the case may be, it was a very good albeit easy read that has me super intrigued to find out what happens next.”
