Vegan Food For The Rest of Us
ByPublisher Description
Recipes for regular people who love great food by "a humorist and cookbook author whose recipes really work."
To create her very best recipes for Beat This!, a cult favorite and a hilarious book full of seriously delicious recipes, Ann’s formula was simple: "Double the chocolate and add bacon." But when she decided to go vegan, what in the world was she going to put in her pound cake—buttons?
For a while, her kitchen resembled a molecular gastronomy lab. After a hellish incident with seitan, she made a decision: No more foods that made her hungry for her former life. No recipe would make the cut in her new life unless her husband liked it enough to beg for second helpings. More than 100 Hodgman-family-tested recipes later, Vegan Food for the Rest of Us was born, full of brilliantly original culinary discoveries, honest and funny writing, and yes, the very, very best recipes.

“If you’re working on transitioning to a vegan diet, don’t read this cookbook. I fear the complicated recipes will make people feel intimidated. The way this book looks (funny, modern) made me think it was filled with easy, vegan recipes for people who didn’t want to difficult recipes or weird ingredients (it’s called “for the rest of us”). I was wrong. There’s a hummus recipe where you have to unshell every chickpea...there’s a recipe that says “this is a somewhat involved procedure”.
The writer is funny, and there are some good tips, and I loved the PETA snippets. I did see a few recipes I would actually make, but one started with “It’s embarrassing to give you such a basic recipe”, so I guess I spotted the embarrassingly easy one...”

“Most of the recipes aren't very inspiring, despite the big promises in the title. Cute illustrations, but pictures would be more helpful in a cookbook.”

“No Bueno.
A lot of tired recipes in here repackaged as new.
Also, I'm not a fan of using highly processed proteins (soy meat), and I think the authors use of them is a cop out.”
