What an absolutely BEAUTIFULLY written book. It brought me my FAVOURITE passage of 2024 which I’ve included above for the review.
I wish this book was longer, I wish there had been more horror with the vampire conflict - one of the early scenes before they set off and are awoken by the dog was so perfectly eerie that I craved more. I had so many questions that didn’t seem to get wrapped up when it came to the vampires themselves as well as whom was using them. The relationship between Mama and Papa being toted as fragile but never explored when it seemed it was anything but fragile.
It did get repetitive at some parts, with the watching of the sheep memories, to a point of frustration.

“I really enjoyed this book! The text itself was beautifully written and really left you to ponder who the true villain in this story was. Definitely had a slow start, but by the end I couldn’t put it down. I’m not usually a historical fiction reader, but this book has inspired me to try more in that genre. Highly recommend!”
