“So this book is a psychological theological horror. As you read this review consider that and consider that I may be taking the contents of this book too literally.
They go in with the need to change a group of individuals because they're fundamentally bad because they're different. (As evangelicals are want to do.) They do the incest (why,, I don't know). Yet they still come out of it feeling like they can save these poor sinners souls. I will never fundamentally understand religion
I think this book was lost on me. It was successfully creepy l, but the theology was confusing for me in the sense that I couldn't tell what the author actually wanted the reader to get from this. She would write something that to me was very clearly bad (as I am want to think of religion), but then the characters would be like yes! (the characters in question being siblings that have been wanting to fuck each other, so what do they know). I don't know man, maybe a thought-provoking theological commentary. Maybe actually just romanticizes and forgives incest in a deeply unpleasant way.”
