Two Classics by L.M. Montgomery - The Blue Castle and Kilmeny of the Orchard - Unabridged

Lucy Maud Montgomery, the Canadian author best known for her "Anne of Green Gables" series, also wrote a small number of stand-alone novels that have become among the most admired and well-read books in Canadian literature. Here, we present two of Montgomery's finest novels: "The Blue Castle" and "Kilmeny of the Orchard."  

In the first, we meet young Valancy Stirling, whose life of drudgery and torment living with her oppressive family takes an abrupt turn when she is diagnosed with a fatal disease. Pledging to finally live life to the fullest while she still can, Valancy flees her home and takes up with local ne'er-do-well Barney Snaith...only to discover true happiness for the first time in her life.  

Next, we present "Kilmeny of the Orchard," the story of Eric Marshall, a young, successful teacher who takes a temporary position on Prince Edward Island. While there, he meets Kilmeny Gordon, a beautiful and talented young woman who is mute. Eric becomes captivated by her innocence, intelligence, and mysterious silence. As their friendship deepens into love, Eric learns that Kilmeny's muteness stems from emotional trauma and family secrets.
