Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea Reviews

3.5
“Firstly, Wow! this took me a while to get through considering how short it is. But I guess 18th century French translated into English is bit heavy. I don’t think this is a must read - nevertheless give it a chance if you want. I think it must have been an extremely interesting and imaginary read, at the time it came out. However today we know most of the world and making this journey less exotic. Characters are quite one dimensional. Captain Nemo is the only interesting person in the book. Once every other chapter or so these long paragraphs of just listing marine life animals and plants appear - seems mostly like Jules Verne trying to flex his knowledge. This results in too many stops in the story’s progression and makes the book longer than necessary. I do however appreciate Verne’s imagination when it comes to the technical parts of the Nautilus and the gadgets used by Nemo. It was fine I guess - but far from the best scifi I have read.”
“It was good fun book, especially the back half. Captain Nemo's a cool character.”
