Tress of the Emerald Sea

By Brandon Sanderson
Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

#1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson expands his Cosmere universe shared by The Stormlight Archive and Mistborn with a new standalone novel for everyone who loved The Princess Bride.

The only life Tress has known on her island home in an emerald-green ocean has been a simple one, with the simple pleasures of collecting cups brought by sailors from faraway lands and listening to stories told by her friend Charlie. But when his father takes him on a voyage to find a bride and disaster strikes, Tress must stow away on a ship and seek the Sorceress of the deadly Midnight Sea. Amid the spore oceans where pirates abound, can Tress leave her simple life behind and make her own place sailing a sea where a single drop of water can mean instant death?

Note from Brandon:

I started writing this in secret, as a novel just for my wife. She urged me to share it with the world—and alongside three other secret novels, with the support of readers worldwide it grew into the biggest Kickstarter campaign of all time. I'm excited to present this first book to you at last: a different type of Brandon Sanderson story, one I wrote when there were no time constraints, no expectations, and no limits on my imagination. Come be part of the magic.

Slightly Smiling Face“This is the first book I've read from Sanderson and from what I understand, the writing style is vastly different from his usual stories. Which is good news for me because I haven't decided if I entirely liked the perspective. Perhaps I would have liked it more if I knew the Easter eggs, as apparently the narrator is a character from one of his previous series. As for creativity I give it massive points, the world and the ocean is gorgeous, so much so that I would love to have a full on visual with more explanation on how it works with additional stories. For the story itself I would say I enjoyed it. It was refreshing to see Tress work around her obstacles as she began her journey to save Charlie. There were a few plot twists that either surprised me or I didn't figure out till later in the story. It was whimsical and charming and funny. I found myself rereading Hoids lines for inspiration because they are so chaotic and creative. I appreciate the inclusion with Fort. It was seamlessly implemented and I love the use of the board. All the characters were lovely and they didn't overwhelm the story. It was a fun adventure and it's deserving of all the praise.”

Slightly Smiling Face“Brandon does it again with a cozy, pirate adventure! This book was so fun to read. The characters were memorable and easy to relate to, and the plot had some amazing twists and turns. The voice in which the story was written was unique and hilarious (ifykyk), and it gave the story a cute, fairytale-like feel. Loved it so much!”
