About Robert Louis Stevenson
Robert Louis Stevenson (November 13, 1850–December 3, 1894) was a Scottish novelist, essayist, poet, and travel writer. He is best known for his influential childrens' books Treasure Island, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and Kidnapped.
Stevenson's childhood was marked by warmth and tragedy. Although raised by a loving and established family of well-traveled engineers, Stevenson was plagued by health problems from an early age. He was often too sickly to even attend school. Despite his illnesses, Stevenson never lost his love for life. Bedridden for long periods, he developed into a voracious reader and writer. As his health and talents improved, he became a widely-beloved figure in literary circles.
