“I think this would've been better as either a short story, or a full-length novel. If it were the former, I think it would've been tighter. The beginning of the book drags plotwise, probably because Roanhorse is attempting the flesh out the worldbuilding with beautiful, descriptive language. However, then it feels like we get an overly simplistic story that is not only a disproportionately small fraction of the book, but also mundane (and not in a good way) against an intriguing setting.”
