“Byrne is the queen of ambiguous endings.
If you have read her novels The Girl in the Road and The Actual Star you know exactly what I am talking about (and if you haven’t what are you waiting for?). These endings come with a bang and they keep living in your thoughts rent-free for a long, long time. The short story Traumphysik is no exception.
The surprise ending, the beautiful prose and the masterfully utilised unreliable narrator make me want to read this short story almost immediately again.”
