Trash

By Dorothy Allison
Trash by Dorothy Allison digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Trash, Allison's landmark collection, laid the groundwork for her critically acclaimed Bastard Out of Carolina, the National Book Award finalist that was hailed by The New York Times Book Review as "simply stunning...a wonderful work of fiction by a major talent." In addition to Allison's classic stories, this new edition of Trash features "Stubborn Girls and Mean Stories," an introduction in which Allison discusses the writing of Trash and "Compassion," a never-before-published short story.

First published in 1988, the award-winning Trash showcases Allison at her most fearlessly honest and startlingly vivid. The limitless scope of human emotion and experience are depicted in stories that give aching and eloquent voice to the terrible wounds we inflict on those closest to us. These are tales of loss and redemption; of shame and forgiveness; of love and abuse and the healing power of storytelling.

A book that resonates with uncompromising candor and incandescence, Trash is sure to captivate Allison's legion of readers and win her a devoted new following.

“This was my first book of Dorothy's that I read. I didn't even know who she was before this book. I was looking up a list of LGBT books for this month and saw her on there. While most of her books are fiction they do stem from personal experience. She had a wild childhood and took those experiences and crafted these amazing stories. She talks about poverty, abuse, and lesbian identity and each story in Trash taps into those topics. I plan on reading Bastard out of Carolina as well. “I did things I did not understand for reasons I could not begin to explain just to be in motion, to be trying to do something, change something in a world I wanted desperately to make over but could not imagine for myself. That was all part of deciding to live, though I didn’t know it.””
“Literary fiction is my favorite thing to read. You can simply get lost in a person's life. These stories do just that, they allow you to jump into another life. Allison has a beautiful, clean way with words and they just serve you up a savory dinner. I love feasting on her delicious words.”
