Tracing Her Stolen Identity Reviews

4.5
“In Katie Mettner’s Tracing Her Stolen Identity (Secure Watch #2), artist Skylar Sullivan contacts Reece Palmer–the only person she trusts, loved, and lost years ago–when someone erases her identity and frames her for art gallery vandalism. There’s no way Skylar could have committed those crimes because she’s been in a wheelchair since 17-years-old. Reece vows to protect and keep Sky safe this time from a mortal threat to her life from a cold-blooded avenger who wants to make her disappear–permanently. Reece refuses to fail, as he did that night when they lost each other. Will they get a second chance at love and live happily ever after? A talented, beautiful, sweet artist, Sky is disabled with a T5 spinal injury from a tragic accident in her teens. Sky works with glass and mosaics to create art. After the accident, Sky pushed her best friend Reece away because of the drastic changes the injury caused to her life, believing he deserved better, and they grew apart. Cybersecurity specialist Reece works remotely for Secure Watch. For the last two years, he’s been their digital forensic examiner. Intelligent, analytical, strong, honest, and standoffish, Reece enjoys solving puzzles and learning how suspects gain unauthorized access to digital and cyber systems to compile evidence for trial. Reece is haunted by nightmares he never remembers from the night of Sky’s injury and has PTSD–but is unaware of it. Mettner’s vivid, detailed, and descriptive writing/storytelling and world-building drew me in from the intriguing opening scenes and kept me glued to the novel, turning the pages. Her action, suspense, and on-the-run scenes are well-constructed and keep you on the edge of your seat. I love her descriptions of Reeves, Sky, and the Secure Watch team investigating and solving the mystery of who’s behind erasing Sky’s identity, vandalizing the museums, the murders, and framing her for everything. Mettner’s exploration of living with a T5 spinal injury and how Sky adapted to how this devastating accident and injury affects her life are emotional, inspirational, and informative. Sky and Reece’s scenes are filled with emotion and tension as they fight painful memories of the past, loss, and longing for one another. As children and teens, they spent all their time together until she pushed him away after the accident and they drifted apart. On the run from the unknown person out to ruin Sky’s reputation and life, Sky and Reece get to know each other as adults. Skylar and Reece’s sweet, steamy, intimate, emotional love scene, deep connection, and electric attraction contribute to developing their relationship, characters, and the story. Sky helps Reece to begin to heal and get past his guilt over her injury and realize that he has PTSD by ensuring that he knows she doesn’t blame him. He refuses to let her push him away–so easily–this time. Tracing Her Stolen Identity is a sweet, steamy, emotional, suspenseful, action-packed, and fast-paced romance recommended for forced proximity, friends-to-lovers, second chance romance, childhood friends, first love, pining, secret crush/love, hero-who-falls-first-hard-and-fast-for-the-heroine, disabled heroine, cybersecurity, romantic suspense mystery/thriller fans. “This was SUCH a beautiful second chance romance! It was written beautifully and executed brilliantly. I loved the tension and angst and yearning. And I absolutely adore Reece with my entire being. The way he accepted Skylar in every single way, and didn't even care that she was disabled melted my heart. This is truly a book about redemption and learning to love yourself enough to accept the love you deserve. Katie has gained a fan for life in me. The suspense was really good too, leading to an ending no one was expecting. The nicknames they had or each other since childhood that they still used? SWOON. "Im your sky so you're my Land." UGH. I could not get enough of this story and I'm hanging on by a thread waiting for the next book! The perfect summary of this book is the quote at the end, "Angel, I would give up any opportunity for you, because that's what love is." Thank you to the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC!! Ifinished it in a few hours because it was just THAT good.”
