Touched

By Walter Mosley
Touched by Walter Mosley digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Intergalactic visions, deadly threats, and explosive standoffs between mostly good and completely evil converge in a dystopian fantasy that could only be conceived by the inimitable Walter Mosley, one of the country’s most beloved and acclaimed writers

Martin Just wakes up one morning after what feels like, and might actually be, a centuries-long sleep with two new innate pieces of knowledge: Humanity is a virus destined to destroy all existence. And he is the Cure.

Martin begins slipping into an alternate consciousness, with new physical strengths, to violently defend his family—the only Black family in their neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles— against pure evil. Think Octavia Butler meets Jeff VanderMeer meets Jordan Peele.

Expansive and innovative, sexy and satirical, Touched brilliantly imagines the ways in which human life and technological innovation threaten existence itself.

Thinking Face“It has been years since I have read a book written by Walter Mosley. I am not sure how to describe it. It is futuristic, and there is something very familiar about the premise of the book. In other words, the way things change the Etsy the same (for Black folks).”
Thinking Face“I didn’t know what to expect from this book as it was probably not something I would’ve picked up on my own, but is February’s sci-fi book club book for a local bookstore. One thing I wasn’t expecting was to get so many feeling flashbacks from one of my favorite books I read when I was younger Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein. Though I wouldn’t say they’re the same and from what I remember, I enjoyed Heinlein’s more, they do have similar vibes. I think it’s great that they were able to put so much more into such a short book, but I feel like the book could have benefited by being a little bit longer so they could go a little more into some details. I do enjoy, however, that the main character is both certain and uncertain about what he knows and he feels and thinks that should be done Because at the same time I feel like that’s how the reader supposed to feel while they’re reading it. Though I’m not sure if I would recommend this book to a lot of people I do know some people who would probably enjoy it and I do think it was an enjoyable book overall. I do like that some of the very unlikable characters become likable, though I will say I don’t think I ever warmed up to the wife. It was definitely an interesting read and I’m glad that I read it and I look forward to the book club meeting to discuss it with others.”
Thinking Face“This was my first Walter Mosley book. It was interesting in how it draws the audience. It also allowed me as the reader to question things that were happening as real or in the mind of the main characters (Temple/Marty). I like how this book was action packed in some ways. The book also hit on the realistic racial aspect of the plight of the black man in America.”
“Really a 3.5. It’s a sci fi novel that involves immortals fighting against death. Kind of strange. It was intriguing but I never fully understood the mission that was to be executed before the barriers began thwarting the main plan.”
