“I really didn't care for this book almost from the beginning, which felt really slow and almost boring. There wasn't any real excitement to it. Plus I didn't connect with Consrantin and Isobel either so that didn't help either. Honestly I didn't connect with the book, though there were a few highlights in the book that made it readable and not a dud. There was just a lack of emotional intensity when I expected so much more especially considering their backstory. Instead it was lackluster and didn't real grip nor gut me. And I wanted to be gutted. The setup was there, but the execution wasn't. I wanted more feels. And just feel more of the roller coaster ride than just told it because then it felt less real. Same could be said for the angst. It just wasn't there for me and again with the setup it should have been there. I was expecting it to be an angsty ride and I was looking forward to it. So I was disappointed. I also thought it was disconcerting by the sudden flashback scenes that interrupted the narrative of the story. It was really abrupt and jarring. If there was page breaks then it would have been better because then I would have expected the shift then but the way it was written it was just there and took me out of the action. So even though I understood why it was in there, where it was peppered in the story wasn't so good. I also felt there was lots of repetition in the story that I felt like I had been there and done that already. It was the same. It was a cycle. She knew she should want him. She gave into him. He realized he shouldn't be with her then he pushed her away. He did that in the beginning of their marriage and he was still doing it. He hadn't learn. Just too much the same. The love story part of the story was ok not great nor my favorite. I just thought there could have been a little bit more development and growth between them as a couple. In my opinion there could have been more. It just felt like a rehash of the past, which was a big element in their relationship but I wanted it to go beyond that too. There were few highlights in the story. One aspect that I really liked and was truly unique to any Presents that I have read in the past was the stalker element. That really added the bit of excitement that the story bad needed. It added life. It added suspense. It brought that edge to the story and made it interesting. It brought out his protective side and showed that he in fact cared about her because i honestly could tell before that. I wanted more of that. That storyline could have prolonged throughout the entire book instead of resolved half way through. That would have kept my interest better. Another highlight for me was the tender moments especially near the end when he took care of her. It was sweet and really showed his softer side. His caring side. It was just a beautiful scene between them. A long the same vein was the lovemaking scenes that was a highlight. The last two were the best because it showed so much. Those showed more than the entire book. The passion was felt. Their connection was there in those moments. At that point it made sense why they wanted each other. It showed what drew them together as well as the deeper feelings between them. Overall this book was okay. It wasn't the worst book I have read. I just wasn't thrilled. Didn't like the beginning it was boring and kind of all over the place. I didn't get them as a couple. There needed to be more excitement. More intensity and angst. The setup was there just how it was presented was not. I wanted to feel more. I wanted more rawness. Aside from the few highlights this book just didn't do it for me. I expected so much more and I just didn't get it.”
