Thrown for a Loop

By Sarina Bowen
Thrown for a Loop by Sarina Bowen digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

A hockey player and former figure skater get a second chance at love in this hot sports romance from a USA Today bestselling author, perfect for fans of Hannah Grace, Elle Kennedy, and Grace Reilly.

Zoe Carson, former figure skating queen, needs a fresh start as a hockey skating coach. An NHL gig with the New York Legends is her big chance. Unfortunately, that means facing off against the star player who broke her heart ten years ago.

Chase Merritt knows his game is off, and he’s on the verge of losing sponsors. But he doesn’t need the ice princess from that intense college summer showing up and telling him what he’s doing wrong—even when she’s right.

On the ice, they’re magic. Off the ice, they’re nothing but heat and stubbornness, and everyone on the team is enjoying the show. But when an old video of Zoe and Chase’s figure skating routine goes viral, they’re forced to work together more intimately than ever before. Can the two get it right this time or will the whole world watch them crash and burn?

Thrown for a Loop Reviews

“A hockey player and a figure skater forced to reunite on the ice ten years after a messy heartbreak? I was sold from the start. This book gave me total Cutting Edge vibes, and I loved every bit of it. Zoe and Chase have the best kind of slow-burn tension. Their chemistry, the banter, and all that unresolved history made their second chance feel so satisfying. I especially enjoyed the flashbacks to their skating camp days, which were sweet and emotional. The story isn’t too heavy, but it hits the right mix of humor, heart, and romance. I also loved the side characters and the locker-room banter from the hockey team. Such a feel-good, cozy read that left me smiling. Perfect for anyone who loves sports romances with nostalgia and warmth. 🌶️ Spice: 2.5/5 ~ just enough to make it swoony without taking over the story”
“Gosh this was such a fun book!! The audio narrators did such a good job narrating the characters. Their reactions were preformed so well. The narrators also did a superb job narrating the other characters in the book as well. They are honestly so talented. The slow burn of this book was so well written since it spans over 10 years! There’s nothing I love more than seeing characters resolve their issues and come back together. I absolutely loved our main characters Zoe and Chase. Their banter was everything. And I loved how broody Chase was towards Zoe in the beginning. It made their chemistry burn even brighter. This book kept me so entertained. Especially since there was a bit of mystery woven in as well. I’d definitely recommend this book and I will definitely be reading the next one! June can’t come soon enough 🤭 Thank you so much to the author, Hachette Audio and Netgalley for an audio-arc of this book!🫶”
“I’ve read many Sarina Bowen books that I’ve enjoyed, but this one is my new favorite for sure. I loved the technical ice skating elements woven in as Zoe coached the hockey players and I always appreciate Sarina’s knowledge of hockey when describing the games as well. She does a great job weaving actual sports into a sports romance and not just making “hockey player” the job description of the MMC. Second chance romance is my absolute favorite and this one didn’t disappoint. The flashbacks from Chase’s point of view and the current timeline from Zoe’s point of view made it a little bit different and interesting, the mystery of what went wrong and why they’re at odds was intriguing, and the tension between the characters was perfect. It must also be said that there were so many opportunities for cliche’s and overdone plot lines in this story and Sarina skipped all of them, making it feel fresh and different than the thousands of other hockey romances out there. If you enjoy a good sports romance with plenty of interesting characters, storylines, and (shocking) SPORTS, you’ll enjoy this book! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.”
