Three Miles Past
ByPublisher Description
Take a road trip into your darkest nightmares with three stories from the modern master of horror and "one of the best writers working today" (NPR). Here, Bram Stoker Award–winning author Stephen Graham Jones gives evil an all-too-familiar face, whether it's the man from the dog shelter, a colleague at a work convention, or even just your phone. Horror can reach you everywhere and when you least expect it . . .
In "Interstate Love Affair," a serial killer's unique way of disposing of his victims' bodies gives roadkill an even more gruesome meaning. "No Takebacks" tracks how an app goes from an idea to coding to letting loose its creator's darkest impulses. And there's nowhere to hide during "The Coming of Night," when a predator's latest kill sets off a creepy-crawly timebomb inside of him.
Buckle up for page-turning scares from "a genuine horror superstar" (

“Wow… this is definitely the darkest and most f***ed up I’ve read from him 😬
I still haven’t experienced a SGJ story that doesn’t have super original ideas in it even if the basic premise isn’t that special. (Other than a couple short stories I suppose) Absolutely worth reading if you’re a horror fan!
Interstate Love Affair - 4.50
Man this one had me cringing so hard… you’re forced inside the head of an insane serial killer with a very unique modus operandi and that ending 😳 WTF
Reminded me of TOGI
No Takebacks - 3.75
Written very well but I didn’t completely understand what was going on… I’ll need to read this one again and I might raise my score but idk it still seems kinda lame.
Sometimes his prose and storytelling is a little too vague for me (I still enjoy that style tho, usually just takes more effort to read) and nonsensical if I’m being honest 🤷 (not a fan of that part… I need some solid grounding in my horror)
The Coming of Night - 4.75
🤯 This was insane and probably the most uniquely disturbing of the bunch. It’s told in 2nd person which I love because it makes you relate more to the MC’s actions whether you want to or not… and boy do you feel it.
It sorta dragged a little in spots with all the psychopathic monologueing but it does serve its purpose of sucking you into his twisted mind well so it’s all good. That’s all I’ll say because I don’t want to spoil anything 🥚”

“Long story short, mixed opinions on this book as it consists of three short stories that vary in ratings.
Story one was disturbing. I like to think of myself as being pretty good against gore and disturbing things. Reading books like tender is the flesh or the haar I don’t even flinch at the gore. However this story was SO disgusting and truly disturbing to my core that I was physically cringing. It’s been months since I’ve read that section and I still feel sick thinking about what happened in this section.
Story two was boring. It had an interesting plotline but the execution was just not there. The scary parts were not scary and the story at times seemed to skip over sections that I started to question if I was missing pages in my book.
Story three improved but still felt like it was missing parts. I would’ve enjoyed this section if it had been expanded into a full book and it left me full of questions.”

“Short horror stories but I found the writing hard to follow and disjointed feeling. I could never really figure out what was actually happening and what was maybe a hallucination. Or maybe it was all happening, even the improbable/impossible? Just ok.”

“I mean very disturbing. I’m still getting used to reading short stories but the 2nd one was my favorite. They were confusing, creepy, unsettling, very violent. Honestly not sure what my actual feeling is on it. Maybe I’ll have nightmares tonight? Who knows!”
