Publisher Description

Introducing Sophie Gonzales' sensational fantasy debut, where a magical potion comes at a terrible price to a noble's sonand the potion maker's daughter who is determined to rescue him.

A dangerous bargain. A forbidden alliance. An impossible love.

Everybody knows about the faerie market that borders the crumbling edges of the mortal world. It is a place where almost anything can be bought . . . by those willing to pay terrible prices. Skills, memories, years of your life—even the freedom of one’s own mind are the currency of choice.

Declan Bonfeld, the only son of a noble house, has never encountered a price he cannot afford to pay. Until the day he attempts to bargain with a ruthless potion merchant for the impossible: a way to bring back someone he loves. When Declan dares to steal from the tyrant’s shelves with the help of the merchant’s captive daughter, Calla, the two discover a horrifying truth. Once a stolen potion is consumed, the thief pays the price, no matter who drinks it.

With Declan’s mind and body unravelling piece by piece, Calla must help him outwit her father, the man she has spent a lifetime fearing, before Declan is stripped of everything he is, and she loses the only person who has ever truly seen her.

This Wild Wanting Reviews

3.5
“3.5 ⭐️ Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this early! This was a fun read. Definitely a step outside my normal reads lately. I'm try to read more outside of my comfort genres/troupes. I love the friendship that developed throughout this story between the two main characters. Some parts of the story did seem to drag on a bit more than I had liked but other than that this was an enjoyable read 📚 😀”
Beaming Face with Smiling Eyes“Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book was really beautifully written. The plot was fantastic and very original. I haven't heard of a plot quite like this one. There were many new words I learned through reading this but I believe it just made the whole story feel even more magical. This book is about a mortal boy named Declan and a fae girl named Calla. Declan decides to travel to the fae world to find some magical potions and Calla works at the potion shop. Calla's father wants a price that Declan is not willing to pay so Declan and Calla scheme against her father (and maybe start developing feelings for each other along the way 😉)”
“NETGALLEY ARC REVIEW: First of all, thank you to Netgalley for this ARC! While I enjoyed the story near the end of this book, I wanted so badly to enjoy the beginning more. I love reading about Fae and magic and usually those are all 5 star reads for me. However, This Wild Wanting was a little slow to start in my opinion. Jumping from character to character per chapter can make for a fun story and I actually enjoyed seeing both Calla’s perspective and Declan’s. I found myself crazily annoyed at Declan for his lack of wit and thought during the first half of the book. I especially loved that the far world appears so different than the mortal. It’s a stark contrast really. A nightmare vs a decent peaceful dream. Once I hit the 50% mark, I was able to really dig in to the plot and finish the book. The ending was amazing and exactly how I would have wanted it to end. It’s a true YA with no spice and perfect for readers and lovers of YA. I would give This Wild Wanting a 3.5 star rating.”
“This Wild Wanting was such a pleasant surprise. The magic system was unlike anything I've read before, unique, creative, and incredibly interesting. One of my favorite things about it was how easy it was to understand. Even with its originality, it never felt overly complicated or overwhelming. The writing itself flowed beautifully. For a fantasy novel, it felt very accessible and easy to get into, with just the right amount of world-building without becoming too heavy. Sophie Gonzales created a captivating story that kept me turning the pages and wanting to learn more about the world and its characters. I especially enjoyed the balance between the magical elements and the character development. The story had heart, adventure, and enough mystery to keep me invested from beginning to end. If you're looking for a fantasy that's imaginative, engaging, and approachable, I would definitely recommend picking this one up.”
“Thank you so much to Sophie Gonzales, St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for the ARC opportunity. I have to say that Sophie really did her thing with this one! We love a good slow burn and I really liked the uniqueness of the potions. I found myself really putting myself in the character's shoes and thinking through what I would have done in these situations (which I feel like I rarely get the chance to do). There was even a plot twist that I never saw coming. This was my first Sophie Gonzales book and I would not hesitate to pick up another in a heartbeat. 👏”
