“This author does something I'm not used to in YA. As am almost 30 year old the MCs in YA novels can come off as young, impulsive, and sometimes stupid. I think this author digs deeper to give depth to characters.
The introspective way the characters think and speak to themselves. Like you know the trauma they have has really effected them.
I definitely prefer Elara but I think that's because she's older and has had more time to think things through. Faron is more impulsive. Not unexpected from someone who was worshiped as a child.”

“I really enjoyed So Let Them Burn, but this one sadly just did not hit the same - the whole book felt a bit empty, and it felt like the hand of the author was often visible in ways it wasn’t in the first one. The magic and powers were vague, and the big moments didn’t land - the whole book was leading towards this one moment, and it felt like it got two sentences and was just like alright, moving on… I’m sad that I didn’t like this book as much, I still think Kamilah Cole is a great author, this just didn’t land for me”
