“An absolute master of modern horror. And a damn fine writer at that”- Guillermo del Toro
It’s Ray’s and Sandra’s first family holiday in Greece, on the island of Vasilema. The skies are cloudier than anywhere else in Greece, and they’re intrigued by local eccentricities—the lack of mirrors, the outsize beach umbrellas, the saint’s day celebrated with an odd nocturnal ritual. Why are there islanders who seem to follow the family wherever they go? Why do Sandra and the teenage grandchildren have strangely similar dreams? Has Sandra been granted a wish she didn’t know she made? Before their holiday is over, some of the family may learn too much about the secret that keeps the island alive.

FLAME TREE PRESS is the new fiction imprint of Flame Tree Publishing. Launching in 2018 the list brings together brilliant new authors and the more established; the award winners, and exciting, original voices.

“The entire Thornton clan goes on holiday to a Greek island. There for the fun and sun, three of them stay in the shade and wear wide brim hats with sunglasses. Other unusual things happened such as their tour guides frequently canceling their day trips and the beach being empty of holidayers who only come out at night. This had a creepy atmosphere hanging over it for the entire book which kept me reading. Everything they did felt like something eerie was going to happen. Unfortunately, nothing really ever happens until the end. With a very slow burn, it was the atmosphere that kept me reading. The characters were well defined but some were (purposefully) annoying to distraction. I just wish the ending was more exciting. This is my first by the author and I'll try him again.”
“**Thank you to NetGalley and Flame Tree Press for the free e-copy of Thirteen Days by Sunset Beach in exchange for an honest review.** Ray and Sandra take their children and grandchildren on a 2 week vacation in Greece on the newly developed island of Vasilema. They begin to notice oddities such as a lack of mirrors, strange nighttime celebrations, and oversized beach umbrellas even though there seems to be always overcast skies. But when Sandra and the two teenage family members each have a strange bite mark and begin to experience symptoms of illness including sensitivity to sunlight, always being thirsty, and all having the same dreams, Ray begins to realize there's something sinister happening in Vasilema. What is it the townspeople won't tell them? This was a 3 star read for me. I had a hard time getting into the story. It had potential to be a creepy horror novel, but instead dragged along and mostly read more like a family drama. The chapters were almost too long for me. I understand they was one chapter for each day spent on the island however it was hard for me to find stopping points. The writing is fantastic, I just felt it lacked in execution. Even though the novel isn't every long, it sure read like a 600 page one for me.”
“As a long time fan of Ramsey Campbell I was so excited to get a copy of this book just before I left for my own vacation. The subject matter seemed to make it perfect timing. Ray and Sandra are a happily married couple who embark on a family vacation with their adult children, grandchildren and the spouses of their kids. Things get off to a bit of a rocky start and with such a large group of people spending so much time together it's hard for everyone to get along. Ray and Sandra are hoping to make this a vacation to remember while keeping a secret from the rest of the family. The locals also seem to have some secrets, and between their strange customs and unusual folk lore the family is a bit on edge. This was a slow burn, building up to an experience of unbridled weirdness. I received a complimentary copy for review”
