Publisher Description

The rag-tag crew of the Capricious hunts down rogue AI, ancient colony ships, and the biggest treasure in the universe in this pulse-pounding space adventure for fans of Firefly and The Expanse.

The crew of the Capricious seems to leave a trail of devastation wherever they go. But with powerful enemies in pursuit and family and friends under attack planetside, there's no time to worry about all that. Ensnared by the legend of Origin, humanity's birthplace, and a long-dead form of magic, the Capricious takes off on a journey to find the first colony ship . . . and power that could bring down gods.

Read the incredible space-fantasy series that V. E. Schwab calls "A total blast!"

“This is actually a 3.5 star read for me, if I understand the ratings. The whole Salvagers trilogy has been quite fun; I do not know what I was expecting when I started it, but it was wildly different than any other reads. This one merges fantasy and science fiction together, as you have spaceships and magic. What I loved in the trilogy are the characters. They were well portrayed and fleshed out. Now to the story: this is where the book loses a bit. At times I absolutely believed this universe could exist with a merging of tech and magic (has been done before), and there were instances where it got a bit lost. Where it lost me was why the reader's mark would work on Boots, and why the porter's mark wouldn't. Or how come the torturer's mark worked on Boots. The whole Boots without a cardiod, where spells don't work on her, but some spells work... that was where it was a bit confusing. I do hope Alex White writes more. The writing was good, the characters were good, and I did like the story in general. Some details needed to be more fleshed out, more worked out. Overall I enjoyed this, and would recommend for a fun and wild adventure through space.”
