Now Amara is a slave and prostitute in Pompeii’s notorious Wolf Den brothel or lupanar, owned by a cruel and ruthless man. Intelligent and resourceful, she is forced to hide her true self. But her spirit is far from broken. Buoyed by the sisterhood she forges with the brothel’s other women, Amara finds solace in the laughter and hopes they all share. For the streets of the city are alive with opportunity—here, even the lowest-born slave can dream of a new beginning. But everything in Pompeii has a price. How much will Amara’s freedom cost her? The Wolf Den is the first in a trilogy of novels about the lives of women in ancient Pompeii.

“This one is one of three in the series and it’s one series I often think about. Get yourself the audiobook as the narrator is amazing and really makes you feel as if your back in ancient Pompeii. I can’t recommend these stories enough.”

“Characters felt a bit too over the top at times, not a lot of nuance. An interesting exploration into Pompeii but felt very one-dimensional, I felt for the characters but there wasn’t anything more complex that hooked me onto them.”

“Oops I did not realize this was a series
A soft 4 star. Like it’s not a 3.5 so I guess it’s a 4.
I started reading this in November and then got distracted. Going in, I thought we were going in a very different direction plot-wise but I guess that’s on me. Not sure if it needed to be nearly 500 pages, I think we could have condensed a few things.”
