Publisher Description

New York Times-bestselling Tad Williams’ ground-breaking epic fantasy saga of Osten Ard begins an exciting new cycle! • Volume One of The Last King of Osten Ard

The Dragonbone Chair, the first volume of Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, was published in hardcover in October, 1988, launching the series that was to become one of the seminal works of modern epic fantasy. Many of today’s top-selling fantasy authors, from Patrick Rothfuss to George R. R. Martin to Christopher Paolini credit Tad with being the inspiration for their own series.

Now, twenty-four years after the conclusion of Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, Tad returns to his beloved universe and characters with The Witchwood Crown, the first novel in the long-awaited sequel trilogy, The Last King of Osten Ard.

More than thirty years have passed since the events of the earlier novels, and the world has reached a critical turning point once again. The realm is threatened by divisive forces, even as old allies are lost, and others are lured down darker paths. Perhaps most terrifying of all, the Norns—the long-vanquished elvish foe—are stirring once again, preparing to reclaim the mortal-ruled lands that once were theirs....

Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes““Men do not manage well with too much peace. Someone will find a quarrel.” I’m a rather large fan of Memory Sorrow and Thorn by Tad Willams, I have often proclaimed it to anyone who would hear that it is the best fantasy trilogy I’ve read and that Osten Ard is how fantasy ought to be written. So here I am back in the world of Osten Ard, back with old friends and enemies and I must admit it’s like coming home. There is just something about this world, these characters, the way it’s written and how it feels that speaks to my love for fantasy in a way very few other series have. I adore this world, I adore these characters and to come back to to the continuation of this amazing story was just wonderful. I thought the Witchwood Crown was an incredible continuation of MST and also an incredible new first book for LKOA because it does everything great that you’ve come to expect from this series and from Willams, but he also improves. The action is just as good if not better, the character work is better, the prose is just as good if not better, the world continues to be great, and the pacing is much improved over the Dragonbone chair and stone of fair well. Honestly just enjoyed every second of this story and can’t wait to see what Willams does in empire of grass. My only complaint is that I thought the end was a little weak compared to previous entires, but otherwise this is an excellent story to what is becoming a top 5 series. 9.3/10”
