The Wicked King

By Holly Black
The Wicked King by Holly Black digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

The enchanting and bloodthirsty sequel to the New York Times bestselling novel The Cruel Prince.

You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without tiring.

The first lesson is to make yourself strong.

After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her brother safe. To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.

When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.

“i like the way the plot develops and the stakes seem higher now that jude and cardan are not in all the high school drama anymore. they way they kinda start trusting each other (or not) seems more convincing than their alliance in the first book. i liked seeing more of cardan’s scheming and his character development is a lot better this time. kinda rude that taryn betrayed jude and her betrayal felt worse than cardans and also i hate locke i hope she kills him or something. i think the majority of trust cardan and jude had in each other was broken when jude didn’t tell cardan she killed balekin and then cardan banished her, and it couldn’t really be called trust if jude was always in control of cardan like he said. but i think it was clear that they learned to care about each other a lot and u could see that in their development. the plot twists were exciting but i hope cardan didn’t always intend to betray her although it would make sense since he purposefully married her without any witnesses before he knew about the duel w balekin”
