The White Company
ByPublisher Description
British author Arthur Conan Doyle wrote a historical adventure called The White Company that takes place during the Hundred Years' War. The plot takes place in England, France, and Spain in 1366 and 1367, against the backdrop of Edward the Black Prince's quest to reinstate Peter of Castile to the throne of the Kingdom of Castile. Following his father's wishes, Alleyne, Edric's son, departs from the Catholic abbey and travels abroad to explore the world. Sam Aylward, a mercenaries’ recruiter who has just arrived in England from France, is waiting for him at the Pied Merlin inn. When Alleyne and his brother finally get together for the first time since Alleyne was a baby, Alleyne learns that his brother is still upset because their father donated the monastery three hides of land to maintain the child. The three friends encounter Sir Nigel and his formidable wife Mary when Alleyne joins up with Aylward, Hordle John. Alleyne is hired as Sir Nigel's squire and Maude's teacher after finding out that Maude is his daughter. The young pair confesses their love to one another shortly before the men leave for France. They exterminate pirates and report to the Prince of Wales' court in Bordeaux. Read the complete book to know how did they live happily ever after.
