“This is a fun whodunit mystery book with unexpected twists and surprises! It kind of reminded me of ‘Knives Out’ but written more for kids.
There are 16 main characters, so remembering who’s who at the beginning is a little difficult. The plot is also a little convoluted at times and the writing isn’t always clear as the perspective changes from character to character throughout each chapter.
For a kids book, it does mention several sensitive topics like suicide, infidelity, murder, bombings, and neglect. However, of these are described in much detail.
Overall it is a short, fun read that keeps you on your toes. I read this with several 10 year old boys in a reading group and they LOVED it!”

About Ellen Raskin
Ellen Raskin was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and grew up during the Great Depression. She was the author of several novels, including the Newbery Medal-winning The Westing Game, the Newbery Honor-winning Figgs & Phantoms, The Tattooed Potato and other clues, and The Mysterious Disappearance of Leon (I Mean Noel). She also wrote and illustrated many picture books and was an accomplished graphic artist. She designed dust jackets for dozens of books, including the first edition of Madeleine L’Engle’s classic A Wrinkle in Time. Ms. Raskin died at the age of fifty-six on August 8, 1984, in New York City.
