The Wake-Up Call by Beth O'Leary digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Two hotel receptionists—and arch-rivals—find a collection of old wedding rings and compete to return them to their owners, discovering their own love story along the way.

It’s the busiest season of the year, and Forest Manor Hotel is quite literally falling apart. So when Izzy and Lucas are given the same shift on the hotel’s front desk, they have no choice but to put their differences aside and see it through.

The hotel won't stay afloat beyond Christmas without some sort of miracle. But when Izzy returns a guest’s lost wedding ring, the reward convinces management that this might be the way to fix everything. With four rings still sitting in the lost & found, the race is on for Izzy and Lucas to save their beloved hotel—and their jobs.

As their bitter rivalry turns into something much more complicated, Izzy and Lucas begin to wonder if there's more at stake here than the hotel's future. Can the two of them make it through the season with their hearts intact?

The Wake-Up Call Reviews

3.5
“This book started slow and I honestly was going to DNF it, but halfway through it got interesting and I was hooked! Miscommunication tropes aren’t my favorite but I liked how O’Leary used the trope to show the complexities of each character and their growth. I really liked the chemistry of the main characters once they started spending more time together, Lucas’ self awareness and growth, the plot was interesting, and honestly I didn’t see what happened to the original letter coming! To sum: not a bad read.”
Beaming Face with Smiling Eyes“Beth O’Leary is one of my favourite authors. Ever. Since 2021 when I picked up The Flatshare, I’ve just known she hits every bar I set. Lucas and Izzy are funny, frustrating, and flirty in a way that’s so realistic. This book felt like a mirror of all my favourite pieces of rom-coms. As a lover of Love Actually, this books is equally as (subtly) festive, exciting and full of little details that pull the whole story together.”
“I thought it was a cute book, but the story was like other romances I’ve read, just without smut (which isn’t a problem at all, just the major difference). The side characters were cute throughout which was great. What annoyed me was the last of communication between Lucas and Izzy - hate hate hate the miscommunication trope. But still good!”
