While stranded on the island the crew had fallen into anarchy, with warring factions fighting for dominion over the barren wilderness. As accusations of treachery and murder flew, the Admiralty convened a court martial to determine who was telling the truth. “I started out reading this book and found it to be completely dry. Chapter 5 I switched over to the audiobook and I don't know if it was Dion Graham's reading of it, or that the action finally picked up, but I was completely enmeshed by the story suddenly.
I really appreciate the amount of research Grann must have put into writing this. The personal accounts of each highlighted sailor are given a unique, individual voice. Every important situation given such descriptive decorum that it is wholly brought to life. After the harrowing tale of the sea I am shocked any made it back at all to tell their side of it.”
