“I read that this book was the weakest of the four in the series, and so far I don’t necessarily agree with that sentiment. This part of the story was tremendously heart wrenching. I cried several times and found the cooking element to be a section of respite from the heavy drama taking place. This was the most emotional I got so far for the series. I’m sure the last book will have me in shambles.”

“After a little bit of a slow start The Veiled Throne started appeared to be continuing the upward trend of the series and I was quite liking it. However it quickly feel victim to some weakness evident thought the series and it fell away and I've ultimately checked out on the series.
A big cast of predominantly unengaging characters (with the odd exception) make it hard to invest in their personal story lines. I continue to not be a fan of the gods element of the story that I feel contributes nothing. Somehow poor plotting, terrible pacing and horribly times POV switches constantly brings the story to a screeching halt every it begins to build.
The world building is still a highlight. But truthfully it can be derivite of its inspirations.
I'm pretty check s out on the series at this point and potentially the author. I'm yet to convince myself to finish of the set with the final book coming up next.”About Ken Liu
Ken Liu is an award-winning American author of speculative fiction. His collection, The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories, has been published in more than a dozen languages. Liu’s other works include The Grace of Kings, The Wall of Storms, The Veiled Throne, a second collection The Hidden Girl and Other Stories, and the forthcoming Julia Z series. He has been involved in multiple media adaptations of his work, including the short story “Good Hunting,” adapted as an episode in Netflix’s animated series Love, Death + Robots; and AMC’s Pantheon, adapted from an interconnected series of short stories. “The Hidden Girl,” “The Message,” and “The Oracle” have also been optioned for development. Liu previously worked as a software engineer, corporate lawyer, and litigation consultant. He frequently speaks at conferences and universities on topics including futurism, machine-augmented creativity, the history of technology, and the value of storytelling. Liu lives with his family near Boston, Massachusetts.
