“I loved the way the atmosphere of New Orleans is written. Now I'm feeling the need to visit the city someday. The world building was super immersive and the histories of the vampires are really interesting (naturally, The Vampire Lestat was my favorite of the three).
The 'current' storyline across books two and three was very... secondary to these histories. It felt almost trivial or even a little silly. The histories of the characters are really interesting and compelling though, and that really is the 'point' I think.
Also this was a beast to get through - it took me 35 hours to read it.”
About Anne Rice
Anne Rice is the author of thirty-seven books, including the Vampire Chronicles, the Lives of the Mayfair Witches, and the Wolf Gift book series. Rice was born in New Orleans in 1941 and grew up there and in Texas. She lived in San Francisco with her husband, the poet and painter, Stan Rice until 1988, when they returned to New Orleans to live with their son, Christopher. In 2006, Rice moved to Rancho Mirage, California. She died in 2021.
