In the House of the Sacred Sisterhood, the unworthy live in fear of the Superior Sister’s whip. Seething with resentment, they plot against each other and await who will ascend to the level of the Enlightened – and who will suffer the next exemplary punishment.
Risking her life, one of the unworthy keeps a diary in secret. Slowly, memories surface from a time before the world collapsed, before the Sacred Sisterhood became the only refuge.
Then Lucía arrives. She, too, is unworthy – but she is different. And her presence brings a single spark of hope to a world of darkness.

“wow!!! this book went body horror body horror lesbians backstory violence violence hope and fear and murder and torture reveal goodbye.
i really liked the style and pacing of the writing and how the author plays with the text. i liked how ominous and secretive the narrator is until we start to learn who they are. i liked that the book really did feel like a secret journal and i could imagine someone secretly writing and recalling memories of that day or the past few days to write in their forbidden notebook so that was a cool experience…ugh but the story itself man. i could feel my skin crawling with every page when i first started, such a journey to find out how they arrived at the sisterhood and how their writing changed. i’m satisfied with the ending because it feels like a final page, i wish they would’ve whacked her harder!!! perfect amount of detail and depth for a story that sits under 200 pages.”
“This had just left me confused. It didn’t even attempt to set up the background and context for the book. I don’t really understand what was actually happening, like I get the background parts but don’t know how that fits into the flow of the book.”
